Transactional Analysis

Transactional Analysis (TA) is a framework of interlocking tools and techniques which enable us to understand what makes us tick, what impact we have on others, and how we can change what we want to change.

Developmental Transactional Analysis (DTA) encompasses the non-therapy applications of TA, combining the organisational, educational and (non-therapeutic) counselling specialisms. It is concerned with applying TA to the process of change and growth at the personal, professional, group and organisational levels.

DTA focuses on using TA in a way that involves teaching the models and concepts to clients and working with them to increase their self-understanding and hence their behavioural options. Clients are also helped to understand the structures and processes that operate within groups, teams, organisations and institutions. It is a positive, developmental tool which is underpinned by an ethos of positive regard.

DTA takes account of the multi-level and multi-party dynamics of organisations and gives leaders practical tools to work in the here and now, to develop and to solve relationship problems.

These tools are useful when:
• A team member is de-motivated
• A problem needs to be solved
• The team is not performing well
• Mediation is required
• The leader lacks confidence
• The leader’s style is confrontational
• ….. and much more!
