Supervision (Using the framework of Transactional Analysis)
Having trouble seeing the wood from the trees?
If you work in the helping professions, if you are struggling with a colleague/boss/client, if you are interested in personal development, greater confidence and psychological strength – read on!
The underpinning values of Transactional Analysis (TA) are: • I’m OK, You’re OK • Everyone can think • Everyone can grow and develop
Using the tools, concepts and philosophy of TA the supervisee is supported to think through their issue in order to really see it for what it is, and come up with some solutions.
• Supervision is a problem solving process. Working on an issue with a supervisor, the supervisee literally gains a “super-vision” of where they are and what their options are going forward. • It is usually conducted in 20 minute slots, in order not to swamp the person with feedback and to keep it focused. If more time is needed, this can be negotiated. • A clear contract is established first: who is responsible for action? What results/outcomes does the supervisee want? Relationship: how does the supervisee want the supervisor to work with them? • Supervision can be conducted face to face or on the telephone.
